Wash or wet the hair apply some product. Curl crème is not right product her as it will be too soft. I recommend a good old fashion mouse and squirt a bunch in your palm. Take a few large areas of your hair, with both hands ball scrubbing with the palms of your finger and squeeze them towards your scalp, like you are crumpling paper. Use a blow-dryer with a diffuser pushing the hair into the teeth of the diffuser attachment. If you have butter fly clips, you can leave a few of the clipped in at angel to give height or volume.
